一般動詞の過去形
動詞の過去形を学び，昨日のことやずっと小さかったときのことを表現できるようになると，ぐっと表現の幅が広くなります。
しかも，現在形と違って，過去形は形が一定なので，一旦覚えてしまえば簡単です。
現在形だけしか使えなかった＜過去＞とおさらばして，自由な表現を楽しみましょう。
過去形早見表
下の表をご覧ください。
was と were は主語によって使い分けますが，一般動詞の過去形は，主語に関係なく全部同じ形を使います！
現在の文と比べて，過去の文は断然すっきりしている，というのが分かりましたね。
ここからは楽勝ですね！

過去形のつくりかた
規則動詞の場合
原形の語尾に ed をつけるだけです。
これは，主語によって変わることはありません。
規則動詞の過去形をつくる 【４つのルール】 をしっかり覚えて，自信をもって過去の文をつくりましょう。
【ルール１】
原形の語尾に ed をつけます。実際，このパターンが一番多いのです。
play - played / work - worked / want - wanted / walk - walked
【ルール２】
原形の語尾が e で終わっているときは，d だけをつけます。
live - lived / like - liked / use - used / dance - danced
【ルール３】
原形＋語尾の y を i に変えて ed をつけます。
study - studied / carry - carried / try - tried / marry - married
【ルール４】
《強く短く発音する母音＋子音》で終わっている動詞は，最後の子音字を重ねて，ed をつけます。
stop - stopped / drop - dropped / plan - planned
不規則動詞の場合
少しやっかいなのが，不規則動詞です。
原形に ed をつけるのではなく，さまざまに変化します。
さまざまと言っても，パターンは決まっていますので，そんなにビビる必要はありません。
である ／ 行く ／ する ／ 起きる ／ 食べる ／ 飲む ／ 走る ／ つかまえる ／ 聞く ／ 見る ／ 寝るなど，人間が生きるために必要な基本的な動作や五感に関する動作を表す単語に集中しているのは，興味深いですね。
ちなみに，規則動詞は英語で regular verbs ，不規則動詞は irregular verbs と言います。
生きていく上で不可欠で重要な動詞がたくさんあるのに，irregular とされていのるは理不尽，と感じているのは，私だけでしょうか。

次のそれぞれの文の後ろにyesterday（きのう）をつけて，過去の文にしなさい。
1. I play the piano. → 私はきのうピアノを弾きました。
2. You play the guitar. → あなたはきのうギターを弾きました。
3. He plays baseball. → 彼はきのう野球をしました。
4. She plays tennis with Runa. → 彼女はきのう留奈とテニスをしました。
5. It plays in the garden. → それはきのう庭で遊びました。
6. I study English. → 私はきのう英語を勉強しました。（語尾が子音＋ｙ）
7. You watch a baseball game on TV. → あなたはきのうテレビで野球の試合をみました。
8. He walks to school. → 彼はきのう学校まで歩いて行きました。
9. She looks at this picture. → 彼女はきのうこの写真を見ました。
10. It starts at eight thirty. → それはきのう８時30分に始まりました。
過去形の文では，三人称単数現在（三単現）の s は きれいさっぱり消えます！
